Career Development

What is Career Development?
Career development is a continual process that involves the management of your work life including developing yourself towards your career vision. Traditional careers revolved around single professions or vocations. Career development in the past was about being prepared for a specific job, based on your professional or vocational qualifications. The idea was to “fit” you into a job.

Career development tools like the following are still useful and important just prior your first job:
✔  Personality tests
✔  Career interest test
✔  Resume writing
✔  Interview preparation
✔  Corporate Dressing & Etiquette

✔  Career coaching
✔  Career resources
✔  Career-related talks, workshops, connecting with employers and alumni

However, your career is more than a job! You will need more than personality tests, resume writing and interviewing skills to prepare for careers in a dynamic work environment.

Super (1954), well-known career theorist, defined careers as "the sequence of occupations, jobs and positions in an individual's life". Preparing yourself for a job is not the same as developing yourself for a career.

These are skills you will need to stay employable in a future workplace.
